Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 15 of Chapter 1 of Title 33.1 a section numbered 33.1-223.2:9 as follows:

§ 33.1-223.2:9. Department to maintain real property.

Whenever the Commissioner or Department acquires real property for any purpose, the Department shall maintain that property in an orderly manner including but not necessarily limited to mowing of grass, cutting of weeds, and removal of rubbish, debris, and abandoned vehicles, in order that the property not become an unattractive nuisance and a possible danger to the inhabitants of the community in which the property is located.
