HOUSE BILL NO. 751 AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE (Proposed by the House Committee for Courts of Justice on February 6, 2004) (Patron Prior to Substitute--Delegate Marshall, R. G.) A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding in Chapter 2 of Title 20 a section numbered 20-12.1, relating to the Affirmation of Marriage Act for the Commonwealth of Virginia.

§ 20-12.1. Marriage; legislative findings.

The General Assembly declares as its existing public policy that the Commonwealth of Virginia does not recognize a marriage, civil union, partnership contract or other arrangement purporting to bestow the privileges or obligations of marriage under the laws of another state or territory of the United States unless such marriage conforms to the provisions of Chapter 2 of Title 20 (§§ 20-13 et seq.).
