047147424Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 46.2-746.8:2 as follows:
§ 46.2-746.8:2. Special license plates; active and retired law-enforcement officers.
On receipt of an application and written evidence that the applicant is an active or retired sworn law-enforcement officer, the Commissioner shall issue to the applicant special license plates. Every application for special license plates under this section shall be accompanied by written evidence that the applicant is an active or retired sworn law-enforcement officer.
The Commissioner shall charge each active or retired sworn law-enforcement officer a fee of $1 in addition to the prescribed cost of state license plates, for each set of license plates issued under this section.
The provisions of subdivisions 1 and 2 of subsection B of § 46.2-725 shall not apply to license plates issued under this section.
