SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Study; hearing aids for small children. Directs the Joint Commission on Health Care to study the costs and benefits of requiring insurers to cover hearing aids for children under age 5. In conducting its study, the Commission shall examine (i) the cost of providing hearing aids to children under age 5, including the effect on health insurance premiums, (ii) the effects on the speech, language, and emotional development of children who have not had hearing aids before age 5, (iii) the costs of providing special services to children who are deaf and hard-of-hearing, (iv) the additional costs of education of children who are deaf and hard-of-hearing, and (v) any other matter the Commission deems relevant.
