SUMMARY AS PASSED SENATE:
Presidential primaries. Sets the presidential primary date as the second, rather than the last, Tuesday in February. This bill is identical to HB 2568.
SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Presidential primaries. Sets the presidential primary date as the second, rather than the last, Tuesday in February. The bill reduces the number of petition signatures from 10,000 to 5,000 that are needed to get a candidate's name on the ballot for a presidential primary held by a political party. The bill also eliminates the requirements (i) that the primary candidate submit a slate of names of delegates to the national party convention with his petitions and (ii) that the party's slate of delegates are bound to vote for the primary winner for at least the first ballot at the convention.
