Celebrating the life of Peggy Jansons Craft.

WHEREAS, Peggy Jansons Craft of Reston, a gifted early childhood educator and businesswoman, died February 15, 2003; and

WHEREAS, born in the small southwest Virginia town of Haysi to Gorman and Estelle Sutherland, Peggy Jansons Craft ventured from Dickenson County to attend Radford College; and

WHEREAS, while at Radford, Peggy Jansons Craft met her first husband, George Jansons, who earned his degree from nearby Virginia Polytechnic Institute in architecture; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Jansons Craft traveled with her husband, who was in the United States Navy, first to Corona, California, where their son Martin was born, and then to Adak, Alaska, where their daughter Lisa was born, before the couple settled in the Washington, D.C. area; and

WHEREAS, in 1965, the Crafts and their young family moved to the new Robert E. Simon community of Reston, where George Jansons became a prominent architect and Peggy Jansons Craft worked at the original Reston Community Center; and

WHEREAS, an enthusiastic community supporter, Peggy Jansons Craft served as a member of the board of governors of the Reston Community Center from 1981 until 1985; and

WHEREAS, committed to providing quality early education to the children of Fairfax County, Peggy Jansons Craft taught during the early years of LANK, the Lake Anne Nursery Kindergarten; and

WHEREAS, in 1975, Peggy Jansons Craft and her close friend and business partner, Lynn Lillienthall, launched PALS Early Learning Center, a successful and innovative day care center for children and infants; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Craft's PALS Early Learning Center was the first day care facility licensed as an infant provider in Fairfax County; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Craft was a talented early childhood educator who contributed her considerable talents, love, and patience to countless bright and energetic children of Fairfax County; and

WHEREAS, Peggy Craft will be sorely missed by her loving husband, Larry Craft, her family, and countless friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the Senate of Virginia hereby note with great sadness the loss of an excellent educator and day care administrator, and an outstanding Virginian, Peggy Jansons Craft; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Peggy Jansons Craft as an expression of the esteem in which her memory is held by the Senate.
