WHEREAS, Maxine Cole Candler of Lynchburg, the daughter of the late John Walker and Frances Jenkins Cole, died on May 21, 2002; and

WHEREAS, a native of Charlottesville, Maxine Cole Candler was the wife of James K. Candler; and

WHEREAS, Maxine Cole Candler was a graduate of James Madison University and was a member of the Lynchburg Junior Woman's Club; and

WHEREAS, Maxine Cole Candler was a devoted member of Peakland Baptist Church and served on the board of directors of the YWCA; and

WHEREAS, Maxine Cole Candler will be sorely missed by her large and loving family, by the parishioners of Peakland Baptist Church, and by her countless friends and colleagues in the Lynchburg community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly mourn the passing of an outstanding Virginian, Maxine Cole Candler; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Maxine Cole Candler as an expression of the General Assembly’s respect for her memory.
