036751480WHEREAS, in 1978, Bishop Samuel L. Green, Jr., announced to the congregation of St. John Church of God in Christ in Newport News that he had been called to establish the Faith for Living Television Outreach Ministry; and
WHEREAS, the ministry was implemented by a group of 120 people, who came to be known as the "120 Club" and who have been instrumental in the growth and success of the Faith for Living Television Outreach Ministry; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Green is a native of Norfolk, a graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, and the holder of divinity degrees from Norfolk Seminary and College; and
WHEREAS, Bishop Green has also been honored with an honorary doctorate degree from Trinity Hall College and Seminary in Springfield, Illinois, and an honorary bachelor of arts in biblical studies; and
WHEREAS, with his wife, Vivian F. Green, Bishop Green raised nine children and became a leader in the church at the local, regional, and national levels; and
WHEREAS, still the pastor of St. John Church of God in Christ in Newport News, Bishop Green has held numerous leadership positions in the Church of God in Christ and has served on countless church and community boards and commissions; and
WHEREAS, his exceptional service has earned Bishop Green honors and citations from the National Religious Broadcasters, the Clergy Economic Education Foundation, the Southeastern Tidewater Opportunity Project, and the Cities of Norfolk and Roanoke; and
WHEREAS, with the help of Mrs. Green, Bishop Green has remained a vital part of the Faith for Living Television Outreach Ministry, which has continued over its 24-year history to expand and prosper; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Bishop Samuel L. Green, Jr., and Mrs. Vivian F. Green on their inspiration and foresight in founding the Faith for Living Television Outreach Ministry; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Bishop Samuel L. Green, Jr., and Mrs. Vivian F. Green as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for their religious and civic leadership and best wishes for continued success.
