HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 913
Commending Vincent J. Olson.

WHEREAS, Vincent J. Olson, a revered and respected statesman and town council member, retires in 2003 after 26 years of exemplary service to the Town of Vienna; and

WHEREAS, prior to serving on the Vienna Town Council, Vincent Olson was a member of the town planning commission; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Olson was elected to the Vienna Town Council in 1976 and served the citizenry with compassion and dedication until retiring in 1988; and

WHEREAS, called back into service in 1989 to serve out the remainder of Richard Fisher’s term, Vincent Olson was elected later in his own right to successive two-year terms and continues to serve on the Vienna Town Council to the present; and

WHEREAS, the mayor and his fellow council members consider Vincent Olsen invaluable in the budget process because of his commitment to fiscal responsibility in local government; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Olson served as chairman of the charter review committee in 1980, council representative for the Highway Safety Commission in 1976, member of the Vienna Municipal League transportation committee in 1977 through 1987, and liaison to the County Board of Supervisors and School Board; and

WHEREAS, in 1980 and 1997, Vincent Olson served as mayor pro tem; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Olson was instrumental in the creation of an off-leash dog park and other improvements that enhanced the enjoyment of town life; and

WHEREAS, Vincent Olson retired in 1999 as a distributor of the Washington Post; and

WHEREAS, an avid community supporter, Vincent Olson is an active member of the Vienna Ayr Hill Lions Club; and

WHEREAS, devoted to the Town of Vienna, Vincent Olson is committed to improving the quality of life for its residents; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend Vincent J. Olson, an excellent public servant and outstanding Virginian; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Vincent J. Olson as an expression of the General Assembly’s gratitude for his long and distinguished service to the citizens of the Town of Vienna and best wishes for his happiness in retirement.
