HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 896
Commending the Northumberland Lions Club.

WHEREAS, founded on April 29, 1953, the Northumberland Lions Club celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2003; and

WHEREAS, the Northumberland Lions Club is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the families of Northumberland County by a steadfast commitment to its motto, We Serve, and to its mission of ensuring that the children of the community receive eye and hearing exams; and

WHEREAS, two founding members, Thomas A. Williams, first president, and W. Leslie Kilduff, Sr., president in 1982, still remain active members of the Northumberland Lions Club; and

WHEREAS, Robert L. Covington, who joined the Northumberland Lions Club one month after its inception and served as president in 1955, also remains active in the club; and

WHEREAS, the Northumberland Lions Club provides citizens with eyeglasses, large-print books, hospital beds, wheelchairs, and other medical equipment; and

WHEREAS, the Northumberland Lions Club assists older residents in need by building handicap-access ramps, by winterizing homes to conserve heating costs, and by providing assistance and construction of home additions; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Northumberland Lions Club for its continuous community involvement and dedication; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Northumberland Lions Club as an expression of the General Assembly's gratitude for its superb efforts on behalf of the residents of Northumberland County.
