2003 SESSION
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched a violent attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and Dulles National Airport, from which American Airlines Flight 77 was commandeered and used by terrorists as a weapon to destroy human lives and damage the structure of the Pentagon, which serves as the center of this nation's defense network; and
WHEREAS, among the victims on American Airlines Flight 77 was Eddie A. Dillard, an aspiring entrepreneur who invested in real estate around the country; and
WHEREAS, a native of Gary, Indiana, Eddie A. Dillard completed his undergraduate studies at Bishop College, where he was a member of Kappa Alpha Phi fraternity and earned a bachelor of science degree in history with a minor in marketing; and
WHEREAS, following his graduation, Eddie A. Dillard served as a marketing manager with Phillip Morris Corporation until his retirement in the late 1990s; and
WHEREAS, Eddie A. Dillard relocated from Seattle with his wife, Rosemary, as she embarked upon a new job assignment in Alexandria in February of 2001; and
WHEREAS, Eddie A. Dillard was on a business trip from Dulles Airport aboard American Airlines Flight 77 to inspect several of his real estate investments on the West Coast; and
WHEREAS, a dedicated father and a loving husband, Eddie A. Dillard will be greatly missed by his wife, his numerous friends, and his family; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of Eddie A. Dillard, a victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Eddie A. Dillard as an expression of the respect in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
