2003 SESSION
WHEREAS, George N. Miller, Jr., of Staunton, a prominent and successful businessman and a former member of the Staunton City Council, died on December 4, 2002; and
WHEREAS, a native of Danville, George Miller served in the United States Army Air Force during World War II; and
WHEREAS, George Miller earned his degree in mechanical engineering from Pennsylvania State University and established a career with the York Corporation and the Westinghouse Corporation before founding his own company, Coupling Corporation of America; and
WHEREAS, during his retirement in Staunton, George Miller taught adult education classes in engineering, became an active volunteer in the Republican Party, and served on the Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad; and
WHEREAS, George Miller served on the Staunton City Council from 1974 to 1978 and in 1986 and 1987, when the city held elections for all council seats to allow representation for newly annexed communities; and
WHEREAS, reelected in 1988, George Miller established a reputation on the council for his conservatism and strong principles, his dislike of waste, and his close attention to safeguarding the city budget; and
WHEREAS, throughout a life of significant achievement, George Miller remained true to his principles and served his family and his fellow citizens with dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with sadness the passing of an exceptional Virginian, George N. Miller, Jr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of George N. Miller, Jr., as an expression of the respect in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
