Celebrating the life of Samuel Jackson Snow.

WHEREAS, Samuel Jackson Snow of Lynchburg, a spirited and dedicated supporter of the community and especially of young people, died October 24, 2002; and

WHEREAS, Sam Snow retired after working 30 years as an accountant in Lynchburg for Babcock and Wilcox; and

WHEREAS, a man of principle who could become passionate over a cause, Sam Snow served a brief stint with the Lynchburg Electoral Board, resigning in protest when the registrar and two assistants appeared to be unjustly fired; and

WHEREAS, Sam Snow's first commitment was to the young people of Lynchburg; he volunteered as an athletic trainer for the E. C. Glass High School football team for 37 years, providing excellent care to injured players, icing bruises and strapping ankles; and

WHEREAS, Sam Snow also could be counted on to volunteer for the Virginia High School League all-star game whenever it was held in Lynchburg; and

WHEREAS, in 1986, Sam Snow was honored with the Frank C. McCue, III, Sports Medicine Award for his long years of enthusiastic and faithful service; and

WHEREAS, always ready to serve the community, Sam Snow was a cardiopulmonary resuscitation instructor for the American Heart Association; and

WHEREAS, devoted to Boys' State, the American Legion Boys' State of Virginia program, Sam Snow not only treated the physical bumps and bruises as a registered medical technician, but also the emotional hurts as an assistant chief city counselor from 1970 until 1972 and a chief city counselor from 1972 until 1975; and

WHEREAS, committed to the welfare of young people and the Boys' State mission, Sam Snow served on the board of directors for numerous three-year terms, as well as served as director of operations from 1975 until 2002; and

WHEREAS, Sam Snow administered the Boys' Nation review team and was editor for the Boys' State Annual in 1977-1978; and

WHEREAS, Sam Snow was inducted into the Boys' State Hall of Fame in 1985 for his 48 years of exceptional service from 1954 until 2002 and his extraordinary ability to communicate and mentor young people in need; and

WHEREAS, Sam Snow will be sorely missed and lovingly remembered by his family, countless friends and admirers, and the young people of Lynchburg; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly, with great sadness, mourn the loss of Samuel Jackson Snow, an outstanding and great-hearted Virginian; and be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution to be presented to the family of Samuel Jackson Snow as an expression of the great respect and esteem in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
