038740936WHEREAS, Houston Edward "Eddie" Hall, the vice chairman of the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors, died on March 15, 2002; and
WHEREAS, Eddie Hall, who retired from Arcadia Polymers in 1988, was appointed to serve an unexpired term on the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors in 1998, then won election to the seat in 1999; and
WHEREAS, Eddie Hall represented the citizens of the Boiling Springs District on the Board, where he championed the creation of a senior citizen center in his district and was involved in Alleghany County's program to add indoor plumbing to rural homes; and
WHEREAS, Eddie Hall served on the Alleghany County School Board, the Alleghany County Social Services Board, and on the board of directors of Total Action Against Poverty; and
WHEREAS, Eddie Hall was instrumental in the establishment of the Alleghany County Build a Better Future Program, which provides job training to county residents with low to moderate incomes, who have either no high school diploma or a general education diploma; and
WHEREAS, in honor of the energetic, outspoken, and dedicated public service of Eddie Hall, the Alleghany County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously to name the nearly complete senior center in the Boiling Springs area the Hall Senior Center; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the passing of an exceptional citizen of Alleghany County, Houston Edward Hall; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Houston Edward Hall as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
