CHAPTER 491 An Act to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 2.2-213.1, relating to Secretary of Health and Human Resources; adoption awareness campaign. [H 1844] Approved March 16, 2003

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 2.2-213.1 as follows:

§ 2.2-213.1. Secretary of Health and Human Services to conduct adoption awareness campaign.

The Secretary of Health and Human Resources shall conduct an adoption awareness campaign to expand the public's awareness of the benefits of adoption and to promote adoption as a positive alternative to abortion. The campaign shall include the dissemination to the public of information about the number of children in the Commonwealth who need permanent families and the experiences of adoptive families in the form of brochures, posters and public service advertisements for television, radio and print media and through the Internet as defined in § 58.1-602.

2. That the provisions of this act shall not become effective unless an appropriation effectuating the purposes of this act is included in the 2003 Appropriation Act passed during the 2003 Session of the General Assembly and signed into law by the Governor.
