SUMMARY AS PASSED:

Unemployment compensation; weekly benefit amount. Increases the weekly benefit amount for recipients of unemployment compensation by 37.3 percent for claims filed between September 9, 2001, and January 1, 2003, and for claimants who had established a benefit year as of September 9, 2001. For claims filed between January 1, 2003, and January 1, 2004, the weekly benefit amount is increased by 18.65 percent above the levels in effect prior to September 9, 2001. For claims filed on or after January 1, 2004, the weekly benefit amounts revert to the levels in effect prior to September 9, 2001. The measure has an emergency clause. Identical to SB 663.

SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE:

Unemployment compensation; weekly benefit amount. Increases the weekly benefit amount for recipients of unemployment compensation by 37.3 percent for claims filed between September 9, 2001, and March 9, 2002, and for claimants who had established a benefit year as of September 9, 2001. For claims filed between March 10, 2002, and July 6, 2003, the weekly benefit amount reverts to levels in effect prior to September 9, 2001, for persons whose highest two quarter earnings did not exceed $13,450, but increases from $268 to $310 for persons whose highest two quarter earnings exceed $13,450, and grants up to 13 weeks of additional unemployment benefits to persons filing claims during such period. Also, an error in the existing benefits table is corrected. For claims filed on or after July 6, 2003, the weekly benefit amounts revert to the levels in effect prior to September 9, 2001. The measure has an emergency clause.

The measure has an emergency clause.
