2002 SESSION
028379444WHEREAS, the Chancellor High School field hockey team capped an outstanding 2001 season by capturing the Virginia High School League Group AA state field hockey championship; and
WHEREAS, finishing the 2001 season with a record of 20-1, the Chargers from Spotsylvania County won the state tournament by avenging an earlier defeat to Jamestown High School in the regional title game; and
WHEREAS, in a tense, hard-fought final match, the Chancellor Chargers prevailed over Jamestown, 2–1, to win the state title; and
WHEREAS, following an undefeated regular season, the Chancellor Chargers swept the Battlefield District tournament with two straight shutout victories; and
WHEREAS, the Chargers qualified for the showdown with Jamestown High School by defeating Fauquier High School, 2–1, in the state semifinal match; and
WHEREAS, the Chargers' state title is a tribute to the leadership of Head Coach James Larkin and Assistant Coach Amy Bernard, the skills, perseverance and teamwork of the athletes, and the support of the Chancellor High School students, faculty, and administration; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly salute the Chargers of Chancellor High School on their 2001 Virginia High School League state field hockey championship; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Coach James Larkin in honor of the championship performance of the Chancellor High School field hockey team.
