2002 SESSION
WHEREAS, the Reverend Doctor General Lee Scott, Sr., of Norfolk, the pastor of St. Thomas AME Zion Church for more than 34 years, died on December 26, 2000; and
WHEREAS, a native of Southampton County, General Lee Scott attended the public schools of Southampton County and the City of Franklin and graduated from high school in Portsmouth; and
WHEREAS, following his call to the ministry, General Lee Scott earned his bachelor's degree from Norfolk State College and his Master of Divinity degree from Virginia Union Theological Seminary in Richmond; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Scott also studied New Testament Greek at Old Dominion University and received an honorary doctorate from Livingston College in Salisbury, North Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Scott was one of the founders of the Ministers Alliance, Norfolk District, which he was serving as president at the time of his death, and was an active member of the NAACP and the Ministers and Lay Association for the AME Zion Church; and
WHEREAS, Pastor Scott will be sorely missed by his family, by the congregation of St. Thomas AME Zion Church, and by his many friends, associates, and admirers in the Norfolk community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with sadness the passing of the Reverend Doctor General Lee Scott, Sr.; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Reverend Doctor General Lee Scott, Sr., as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly.
