WHEREAS, Richard H. Foote of Lake of the Woods in Orange County, a retired entomologist, died on February 9, 2002; and

WHEREAS, a veteran of service with the U.S. Army during World War II, Richard Foote had retired as a research entomologist with the Systematic Entomology Lab in Beltsville, Maryland; and

WHEREAS, a widely published entomologist, Richard Foote was an authority on the Mediterranean fruit fly and was the author of more than 160 publications, including the Handbook of Fruit Flies of America North of Mexico; and

WHEREAS, Richard Foote was a former president of the Entomological Society of Washington and the Washington Academy of Sciences and was a member of the Entomological Society of America; and

WHEREAS, a man of great talent and considerable professional achievement, Richard Foote will be missed by his family, the Lake of the Woods community, and the American scientific community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the passing of Richard H. Foote; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Richard H. Foote as an expression of the respect in which his memory is held by the members of the General Assembly,
