WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched an inexcusable attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the people killed, injured, or missing; and

WHEREAS, among the victims of the attack on the World Trade Center in New York City was Alysia Burton Basmajian, a 1996 graduate of Mills Godwin High School in Henrico County; and

WHEREAS, Alysia Basmajian was an accountant for the firm of Cantor Fitzgerald on the 101st floor of the World Trade Center and was one of 700 Cantor Fitzgerald employees killed in the attack; and

WHEREAS, a native of Longview, Washington, Alysia Basmajian was a popular student at Godwin High School who went on to earn her degree in accounting from the College of William and Mary, where she met her husband, Anthony Basmajian; and

WHEREAS, the mother of a two-year-old daughter, Kaela Grayce, Alysia Basmajian was devoted to her family and to her many friends and colleagues in Virginia and New York, all of whom hold fond memories of her warmth, her beauty, her humor, and her kindness; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Alysia Burton Basmajian, an innocent victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Alysia Burton Basmajian as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
