SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 215
On the death of Sergeant 1st Class Jose Orlando Calderon.

WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched an inexcusable attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and

WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was Sergeant 1st Class Jose Orlando Calderon of Annandale, a supply sergeant under the Army's Deputy Chief of Staff for Personnel at the Pentagon; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Calderon was a native of Fajardo, Puerto Rico, who had served in the United States Army with dedication and distinction for 19 years; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant Calderon served for seven months in the Persian Gulf during Operation Desert Storm and in Korea, Kentucky, and Newport News before being assigned to the Pentagon in early 2000; and

WHEREAS, while stationed in Bremen, Germany, 10 years ago, Sergeant Calderon met his wife, Gloria, with whom he had two children, Vanessa and Jose, Jr.; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Sergeant 1st Class Jose Orlando Calderon, a victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Sergeant 1st Class Jose Orlando Calderon as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
