028260500WHEREAS, Randall Hollister, the headmaster of Loudoun Country Day School in Leesburg, was named Private School Principal of the Year, one of the Distinguished Educational Leadership Awards sponsored by the Washington Post; and
WHEREAS, the private-school awards, administered for the Washington Post by the Council for American Private Education, honor administrators who go beyond the day-to-day requirements of their jobs to create exceptional learning environments for their students; and
WHEREAS, principals are chosen for the annual awards based on nominations from parents, teachers, colleagues, and current and former students; and
WHEREAS, Loudoun Country Day School, founded in 1953, is an accredited, independent, coeducational school that educates students in pre-kindergarten through the eighth grade; and
WHEREAS, Randall Hollister earned his undergraduate degree from Saint Bonaventure University, master's degrees from Plymouth State College and the State University of New York at Buffalo, where he also received his doctorate in the social foundations of education; and
WHEREAS, Randall Hollister is a member of the Association of Independent Schools of Greater Washington and is a member of the governing board of the Virginia Association of Independent Schools; and
WHEREAS, a 1991 winner of a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship, Randall Hollister is also the author of three plays and the creator of the long-running "My Word for Kids!" radio program; and
WHEREAS, the prestigious Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Award recognizes Randall Hollister as one of the finest educational leaders in the 16-jurisdiction Washington metropolitan area; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend Randall Hollister on winning the Washington Post Distinguished Educational Leadership Award for private schools; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Randall Hollister as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for his exceptional commitment to the education of the young people of Leesburg and Loudoun County.
