WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched an inexcusable attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and

WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was Major Wallace C. "Cole" Hogan, Jr., of Fairfax, a career Army man who had served with the Green Berets and the Special Forces; and

WHEREAS, Cole Hogan grew up in Macon, Georgia, graduated from Valdosta State College, and joined the Army National Guard; and

WHEREAS, Cole Hogan became part of the regular Army during the Persian Gulf War and was stationed in Hawaii and Panama before his transfer to the Pentagon as a general's aide; and

WHEREAS, Cole Hogan, with his wife, Pat, was active in his Fairfax County community, volunteering to work with a neighborhood revitalization program; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby note with great sadness the loss of Major Wallace C. Hogan, Jr., a victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Major Wallace C. Hogan, Jr., as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
