2002 SESSION
WHEREAS, Dennis E. Bridgeman of Grayson County, a former officer with the Virginia Department of Corrections and the Grayson County Sheriff's Office and a school resource officer for the Grayson County public schools, died on March 2, 2002; and
WHEREAS, a native of Marion and a lifelong resident of Grayson County, Dennis Bridgeman was a graduate of Independence High School; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Bridgeman began his career with the Virginia Department of Corrections in 1976 as a correctional officer and was promoted to lieutenant on January 16, 1990; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Bridgeman became a correctional officer with the Grayson County Sheriff's Office on May 7, 1990, was promoted to chief correctional officer in 1995 and to captain at the New River Regional Jail in 1999; and
WHEREAS, from January 1, 2000, until his untimely death, Dennis Bridgeman served as a Grayson County Sheriff's Office school resource officer for the Grayson County public schools; and
WHEREAS, in a gesture of respect for Dennis Bridgeman, more than 1,000 friends and family paid tribute to him at a memorial service at Grayson County High School on March 3, 2002; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Bridgeman leaves a legacy of devotion to his family, dedication to his profession, and service to his community and the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Delegates mourn the passing of an exceptional citizen of Grayson County, Dennis E. Bridgeman; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Dennis E. Bridgeman as an expression of the high regard in which his memory is held by the members of the House of Delegates.
