HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 57
Commending the Harris Rangers baseball team.

WHEREAS, the Harris Rangers, a Virginia-based team of 16-year-old players, won the 2001 Continental Amateur Baseball Association (CABA) World Series in Dallas, Texas; and

WHEREAS, comprised of players from Prince William, Fairfax, and Shenandoah Counties, the Harris Rangers compiled a record of 10 wins and 1 loss in capturing the national championship; and

WHEREAS, team general manager Mark Harris, owner of Harris Baseball in Manassas, assembled the team for the 2000 season, which the Rangers completed with a third-place finish in the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) national 15 and under tournament in Tennessee; and

WHEREAS, building on their success in 2000, the Harris Rangers played a 2001 regular season in the Old Dominion Summer League, frequently against teams with older, more experienced players, to prepare for the rigors of the national championship tournament; and

WHEREAS, in 11 games in Texas, the Harris Rangers scored 126 runs, a new record for the CABA World Series, and yielded an average of just over four runs per game in defeating teams from across the United States, Puerto Rico, and Mexico; and

WHEREAS, the 17 members of the Harris Rangers showed great skill, teamwork, and dedication in working successfully toward their goal of a national baseball championship; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Harris Rangers baseball team on their outstanding performance at the CABA World Series; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Mark Harris as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the exceptional success of the Harris Rangers baseball team.
