Commending the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic.

WHEREAS, since its founding in 1994, the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic has provided essential oral health care to nearly 10,000 Northern Virginia residents who might otherwise have gone without proper care; and

WHEREAS, with volunteer dental professionals contributing more than 12,000 hours of professional dental care, the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic serves the dental health care needs of low-income adults who lack the ability to pay for dental services; and

WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic offers comprehensive dental services conservatively valued at $1.2 million annually based on customary charges in the Northern Virginia area; and

WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic, the only such facility in Northern Virginia, relies on the volunteer services of dental professionals; and

WHEREAS, the dental care provided by the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic results in better oral health among the residents of Northern Virginia and reduces dental-related emergency room visits; and

WHEREAS, the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic contributes to the community by building relationships among dental care professionals, encouraging volunteerism and community involvement, and building self-esteem among its less fortunate clients; and

WHEREAS, the services provided by the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic assist many patients in obtaining employment, and the education of the clinic's adult patients about proper dental health care at home helps both the patients and their families; and

WHEREAS, for the past eight years, the generous and dedicated volunteers of the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic have had a positive and lasting effect on the health of the Northern Virginia community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic and its volunteers for their selfless service to their fellow citizens; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Tom Wilson, executive director of the Northern Virginia Dental Clinic, as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for the clinic's vital contributions to health care in Northern Virginia.
