HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 438
Commending the Lee-Davis High School baseball team.

Agreed to by the House of Delegates, February 28, 2002
Agreed to by the Senate, March 6, 2002

WHEREAS, on June 9, 2001, the Lee-Davis High School baseball team won the 2001 Virginia High School League Group AAA state baseball championship; and

WHEREAS, the Lee-Davis Confederates, champions of the Capital District and the Central Region, returned home to Mechanicsville, in Hanover County, with the second team state championship in the 43-year history of Lee-Davis High School; and

WHEREAS, in the Group AAA state tournament, the Confederates, coached by Kenneth Lewis, outscored their opposition by a margin of 24–6 in winning three straight games against strong competition; and

WHEREAS, Lee-Davis defeated Western Branch High School, 10–4, and Halifax High School, 4–0, to advance to the state title game against Ocean Lakes High School; and

WHEREAS, in the state championship match-up, the Confederates, who finished the 2001 season with a record of 22–5, relied on strong pitching and timely hitting to win easily by a score of 10–2; and

WHEREAS, in displaying leadership, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the district, regional, and state tournaments, the members of the Confederates baseball team brilliantly represented their families, Lee-Davis High School, and the Mechanicsville community; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Lee-Davis High School baseball team on its state championship performance; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Head Baseball Coach Kenneth Lewis in honor of the outstanding 2001 season of the Lee-Davis High School Confederates.
