2002 SESSION
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched a violent attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and
WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack were Kenneth E. Lewis and Jennifer G. Lewis of Culpeper, who were flight attendants on American Airlines Flight 77 when it crashed into the Pentagon; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Lewis and Jennifer Lewis had been married for eight years and were fond of traveling together, often arranging their flight assignments so they could travel to favorite destinations; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Lewis, a native of Farmville, attended Hampden-Sydney College and was a ski instructor before joining American Airlines, where he was a flight attendant for 17 years; and
WHEREAS, Jennifer Lewis, a native of Norwalk, Connecticut, had been a flight attendant with American Airlines for 16 years, and was known for her sense of humor and her fondness for showing her thoroughbred horse, Poet, in many area competitions; and
WHEREAS, a happy, popular, outgoing, and active couple, Kenneth and Jennifer Lewis will be missed by their families, their colleagues in the airline industry, and their countless friends and admirers; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of Kenneth E. Lewis and Jennifer G. Lewis, innocent victims of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare copies of this resolution for presentation to the families of Kenneth E. Lewis and Jennifer G. Lewis as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
