2002 SESSION
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched a violent attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and
WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was Staff Sergeant Maudlyn White of Arlington, who had reported for a tour of duty at the Pentagon on September 10; and
WHEREAS, a native of St. Croix, Virgin Islands, Staff Sergeant White enlisted in the United States Army in 1985 and was a personnel officer; and
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant White had returned to the United States in July following a tour of duty with the 2nd Infantry Division in South Korea, where she was in charge of awards and other personnel actions for the 2nd Infantry Division Support Command; and
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant White was dedicated to her Army career and to her six-year-old daughter, Vielda; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of Staff Sergeant Maudlyn White, a victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Staff Sergeant Maudlyn White as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
