2002 SESSION
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched a violent attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and
WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was Lieutenant Colonel Jerry D. Dickerson of Springfield, a research analyst and assistant executive officer for the Deputy Chief of Staff of Programs; and
WHEREAS, a native of Mississippi, Lieutenant Colonel Dickerson studied economics at Mississippi State University and earned a master's degree in engineering from Texas A & M University; and
WHEREAS, Lieutenant Colonel Dickerson enlisted in the Army in 1983, was stationed in West Berlin, Fort Lee, Virginia, and South Korea, and was awarded three Meritorious Service Medals, two Army Achievement Medals, and the Army of Occupation Medal for Berlin; and
WHEREAS, described by a colleague as a "key player in molding and shaping the future of the United States Army," Lieutenant Colonel Dickerson was married and the father of two young children; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of Lieutenant Colonel Jerry D. Dickerson, a victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Lieutenant Colonel Jerry D. Dickerson as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
