HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 375
On the death of Michael L. Selves.

WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched a violent attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and

WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was Michael L. Selves of Fairfax, a civilian employee of the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, a native of Pendleton, Oregon, Michael Selves was a graduate of the University of Oregon and an ardent fan of Oregon's athletic teams; and

WHEREAS, over the course of a 20-year Army career, Michael Selves served in South Korea and Italy, advancing to the rank of lieutenant colonel; and

WHEREAS, well-known for his sense of humor and exceptionally popular among his colleagues at the Pentagon, Michael Selves was director of information management support for the United States Army; and

WHEREAS, the attack, a few days short of his 54th birthday, brought to an end Michael Selves’ plans to retire to South Carolina within a year and play golf with Gayle, his wife of six years; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of Michael L. Selves, an innocent victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Michael L. Selves as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
