WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched a violent attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrible human suffering in New York, Virginia, and Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the personnel, military and civilian, who served there; and

WHEREAS, among the victims of the Pentagon attack was Don Simmons of Dumfries, a civilian program analyst for the Army; and

WHEREAS, a native of DuQuoin, Illinois, Don Simmons served in the United States Army at Fort Myer, where he met his wife, Peggy; and

WHEREAS, Don Simmons had worked at the Pentagon for 11 years, enjoyed painting and fishing with his wife, and is remembered by his friends and neighbors as a warm and caring friend; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of Don Simmons, an innocent victim of the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Don Simmons as an expression of the heartfelt condolences of the General Assembly of Virginia.
