HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 322
On the death of Myron E. Smith, Jr.

WHEREAS, Myron E. Smith, Jr., of Chantilly, a retired United States Navy captain who served the citizens of the Commonwealth and the nation with great distinction, died on October 16, 2001; and

WHEREAS, a native of California, Myron Smith was a graduate of the University of Southern California and served his country as an engineer in the United States Navy for 31 years; and

WHEREAS, Myron Smith attained the rank of captain and was highly decorated by the United States Navy and the Republic of Vietnam; and

WHEREAS, Myron Smith served as the executive director of the Dulles Area Transportation Association for more than four years, in which position he served the people of Northern Virginia generally and the citizens and businesses of the Dulles Corridor specifically; and

WHEREAS, Myron Smith worked tirelessly on the Committee for Dulles, the Rail to Dulles project, the Virginia e!commute project, Commuters' Choice, and various citizens' task forces; and

WHEREAS, Myron Smith volunteered endless hours to his community of Chantilly and the Counties of Fairfax and Loudoun for more than 15 years; and

WHEREAS, well-known and highly respected, Myron Smith established an enviable record of public service, characterized by honesty, persistence, consistency, and an abiding willingness to help the citizens of the Commonwealth, Northern Virginia, and the Dulles Corridor; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the passing of a singularly dedicated and effective public servant, Myron E. Smith, Jr.; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Myron E. Smith, Jr., as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
