2002 SESSION
WHEREAS, since the birth of this country, coal has provided the energy to fuel the nation's homes and factories; and
WHEREAS, the energy needs of the Commonwealth and the nation have been met due to the hard work and dedication of American coal miners; and
WHEREAS, coal miners, many of whom work and reside in Southwest Virginia, perform a difficult and dangerous job daily to fuel the nation's industries and provide a vital source of energy to its citizens; and
WHEREAS, it is entirely appropriate that the nation recognize the essential contributions of its coal miners to the energy needs of the country; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the United States Postal Service be urged to issue a postage stamp commemorating American coal miners; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates transmit copies of this resolution to the United States Postmaster General, the Citizens’ Stamp Advisory Committee of the United States Postal Service, and the members of the Virginia Congressional Delegation so that they may be apprised of the sense of the General Assembly of Virginia.
