Commending F. Wendell Latham.

WHEREAS, F. Wendell Latham retired in 2001, thus ending an exemplary career as a teacher and director of vocational education for the Stafford County public schools; and

WHEREAS, a graduate of Culpeper High School, Wendell Latham earned his bachelor's and master's degrees in agricultural education at Virginia Tech and pursued post-graduate studies at Virginia Commonwealth University, James Madison University, Virginia State University, George Mason University, and the University of Virginia; and

WHEREAS, Wendell Latham was an instructor of agricultural education in the Caroline County and Stafford County public schools, was a former principal of Ladysmith High School in Caroline County, and was principal and director of adult education in the Stafford County schools; and

WHEREAS, for the last 25 years of his career, Wendell Latham was director of vocational education for Stafford County, a role in which he established his reputation as one of the finest educators in the Commonwealth; and

WHEREAS, Wendell Latham was noted statewide for his success in establishing business-education partnerships, to the benefit of Stafford's vocational education students; and

WHEREAS, a charter member of the Virginia Association of Vocational Administrators, Wendell Latham served the organization in all leadership roles, including president, treasurer, and state newsletter editor; and

WHEREAS, Wendell Latham has long been involved in church and community activities, serving as member of the Deacon Board at Ferry Farm Baptist Church for 24 years and serving on a wide variety of church committees; and

WHEREAS, for his dedication to vocational education, Wendell Latham has been cited repeatedly by local, regional, and state organizations, winning recognition by, among many others, the Stafford Jaycees, the Virginia Vocational Association, the Stafford Rotary Club, the Fredericksburg Area Builders Association, and the Virginia Employment Commission; and

WHEREAS, Wendell Latham was one of only two educators nationwide to be honored with the 2001 Outstanding Service Award from the Association for Career and Technical Education; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend F. Wendell Latham on the conclusion of an outstanding career in vocational education; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to F. Wendell Latham as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration and gratitude for his many years of dedicated and effective service to the young people of Virginia.
