2002 SESSION
WHEREAS, on September 11, 2001, terrorists launched a violent attack on the United States, causing great destruction and horrific human suffering; and
WHEREAS, the deepest sympathy of each member of the General Assembly lies with the thousands of victims of the airplane hijackings--in New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia--and their families, friends, and colleagues; and
WHEREAS, the attack had a devastating effect in Virginia, home of the Pentagon and of many of the military and civilian personnel who served there; and
WHEREAS, Virginia also suffered grievous loss in the attack on the World Trade Center in New York; and
WHEREAS, the United States is responding to these barbaric acts on innocent men, women, and children with a lengthy military and homeland defense campaign to punish those responsible and restore justice, decency, and honor in the world; and,
WHEREAS, the pain and suffering experienced by our citizens strengthens our resolve to starve terrorists of funding, force them out of their hiding places until there is no refuge or rest, destroy those who would commit such unspeakable acts, and punish those nations that aid and provide a safe haven for terrorists; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly honor the Virginians who died as a result of the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001, and express heartfelt condolences to their families; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the General Assembly express the strongest support for, and utter confidence in, the men and women of the armed forces of the United States, which includes many Virginians, as they endeavor to annihilate terrorism, protect liberty and the freedoms that we cherish, and represent the courage and resilience of the American people.
