Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That § 56 of Chapter 712 of the Acts of Assembly of 1952 is amended and reenacted as follows:

§ 56. Council may act by ordinance, resolution or motion.

Except in dealing with parliamentary procedure, the council shall act only by ordinance or resolution. The council may act either by ordinance, resolution or motion. All acts by council prior to the effective date of the 2002 amendment of this section are ratified and confirmed.
