Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 46.2-396.1 as follows:

§ 46.2-396.1. Suspension of driver's license upon conviction of driving offense resulting in death of a person.

When a person is convicted of a traffic infraction or a criminal traffic offense under Title 46.2 that results in the death of any person, in addition to any other penalties provided by law, the court shall suspend the driver's license of the person for a period of between six months and twelve months and shall order the surrender of the license to the court pursuant to § 46.2-398. If the person convicted has no driver's license or is a nonresident, the court shall order that the person not drive any motor vehicle in the Commonwealth for a period of between six months and twelve months.
