025255928Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 15.2-925.1 as follows:
§ 15.2-925.1. Prohibition on possession of handguns in certain county-owned buildings; penalty.
Any county with urban county executive form of government may, by ordinance, make it unlawful for any person to possess a handgun in any county-owned building. Such ordinance shall provide for appropriate exemptions for educational, instructional, theatrical and historical events, shall be posted at each public entrance of every building that is within the scope of the ordinance, and shall not apply to the following individuals: (i) any law-enforcement officer as defined by § 9.1-101; (ii) any magistrate, court officer or judge; or (iii) any person who has a valid concealed handgun permit.
Any person who violates the ordinance is guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor, and upon his conviction, shall forfeit his handgun in accordance with § 18.2-310.
