2002 SESSION
Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 2 of Chapter 27 of Title 2.2 a section numbered 2.2-2708.1 as follows:
§ 2.2-2708.1. Possession of certain military medals.
To preserve the dignity of military medals authorized to be worn by the United States Department of Defense and the memory of those who have rendered faithful service and sacrifice in the cause of freedom and liberty, the Foundation shall be vested with the full authority to take possession of any military medals, ribbons or certificates that come into the possession of the Commonwealth for which the ownership is unknown until such time as the true owner is able to take possession. The Foundation shall take reasonable efforts, based on available resources, to determine the true owner and return any military medal, ribbon or certificate that comes into its possession pursuant to this section.
2. That an emergency exists and this act is in force from its passage.
