WHEREAS, Eugene Lee Newman, a former safety engineer for the Labor Department, died on April 30, 2001; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Lee Newman served as Fairfax County School Board chairman in the 1960s and served on the Virginia State Community College Board; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Lee Newman was a director of the Occupational Safety Institute; and

WHEREAS, Eugene Lee Newman was a founding director of the Board of Certified Safety Professionals; and

WHEREAS, in 1975 Eugene Lee Newman established Newman Safety Associates in Middletown, which operated until 2000; and

WHEREAS, a well-known and widely respected leader in the safety industry, and active in the historic preservation of Middletown, Eugene Lee Newman will be missed by his family and his many friends and colleagues; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the House of Delegates, the Senate concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the loss of a fine Virginian, Eugene Lee Newman; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the House of Delegates prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Eugene Lee Newman as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for his memory.
