SUMMARY AS PASSED SENATE: (all summaries)

Paid political advertisements. Requires the newspaper, magazine, periodical, or radio or television station that accepts an advertisement advocating the election or defeat of any candidate to obtain proof of identity or the telephone number for the person submitting the advertisement when the authorization statement on the advertisement states that an individual is responsible for the advertisement. The proof of identity requirement does not apply if the advertisement carries an authorization statement showing that the candidate, a candidate campaign committee, a political party committee, or a political committee registered with the State Board of Elections has authorized the advertisement.
