SUMMARY AS INTRODUCED:
Options to the employment of additional teachers. Allows school boards to use funds appropriated for the employment of additional classroom teachers to increase the compensation of licensed in-service teachers who agree to teach either (i) Standards of Learning courses, (ii) reading classes for students with poor reading skills and ability, (iii) remediation courses, (iv) extended hours to tutor at-risk students, or (v) in schools with low student performance on the Standards of Learning assessments, or in schools that have not attained full accreditation, pursuant to Board regulations governing the accreditation of public schools.
This bill is a recommendation of the Commission on Educational Accountability's Task Force on Remediation.
