2001 SESSION
HB 1654 Temporarily employed teachers.
Introduced by: Phillip A. Hamilton | all patrons ... notes | add to my profiles
SUMMARY AS PASSED HOUSE: (all summaries)
Temporarily employed teachers. Revises the definition of "temporarily employed teacher" by eliminating the requirement that those individuals hired to fill a teacher vacancy for a period of time serve no longer than 90 days. This measure would permit school boards instead to determine the time period necessary to address a teacher shortage in a particular grade level or content area.
Board of Education regulations would require that long-term substitutes hold a college degree or demonstrate equivalent work experience. A sunset clause provides that the measure expires on July 1, 2004.
