WHEREAS, before this year, the girls' gymnastics team from Princess Anne High School in Virginia Beach had never advanced as far as the state gymnastics meet; and
WHEREAS, on February 16, 2001, the Cavaliers from Princess Anne not only participated in the state Group AAA gymnastics championship meet, they won it; and
WHEREAS, following a regular season in which they were undefeated, the Princess Anne Cavaliers relied on their consistent excellence in all events to capture the Eastern Regional championship; and
WHEREAS, facing strong competition from nearby Ocean Lakes High School and the perennially strong Northern Region schools, the Cavaliers calmly scored well in all events to win the state championship; and
WHEREAS, in addition to winning their school's first state gymnastics title, the Princess Anne Cavaliers ended a six-year winning streak in state title meets by Northern Region schools; and
WHEREAS, Coach Laurie Knott's Cavaliers are a blend of experience and youth, which bodes well for the continued success of the girls' gymnastics program at Princess Anne High School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend and congratulate the Cavaliers of Princess Anne High School on their historic 2000-2001 gymnastics season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Coach Laurie Knott as an expression of the General Assembly's admiration for the championship performance of the Princess Anne High School girls' gymnastics team.
