SENATE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 510
On the death of Joann J. Belote.

WHEREAS, Joann J. Belote of Norfolk, a prominent Realtor and longtime civic leader in the East Ocean View community, died on May 21, 2000; and

WHEREAS, a native of Richmond, Joann Belote moved to Norfolk in 1954, married Richard Belote in 1958, and settled in East Ocean View, where she remained for the rest of her life; and

WHEREAS, an active and devoted member of the East Ocean View Presbyterian Church, Joann Belote taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school and was involved in many other church and youth activities; and

WHEREAS, Joann Belote was a longstanding member of the East Ocean View Civic League and the Ocean View Coordinating Committee, serving the latter as chairman in 1987-1988; and

WHEREAS, Joann Belote later became a successful Realtor and served as chairman of the Municipal Affairs and Governmental Affairs Committees and vice president of the Public Affairs Committee of the Tidewater Association of Realtors; and

WHEREAS, Joann Belote also served a term as president of Tidewater Association of Realtors and was a member of the Honor Society and the Governing Board, Rules and Regulations, for the Virginia Association of Realtors; and

WHEREAS, in recognition of her involvement in the leadership of the Tidewater Association of Realtors and her 40 years of commitment to the redevelopment of the East Ocean View community, Joann Belote was honored by Norfolk Mayor Paul D. Fraim, who proclaimed December 13, 1996, as Joann J. Belote Day; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly note with sadness the passing of an outstanding citizen of Norfolk, Joann J. Belote; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the family of Joann J. Belote as an expression of the General Assembly's respect for her memory.
