2001 SESSION
WHEREAS, the year 2001 marks the 350th anniversary of the creation of Lancaster County as a political subdivision by the General Assembly; and
WHEREAS, in 1651, the General Assembly, meeting in Jamestown, created Lancaster County as the twelfth-oldest political subdivision in the Commonwealth; and
WHEREAS, the land area originally granted Lancaster County in 1651 has since been further divided to create the Counties of Middlesex, Essex, and Richmond and portions of the Counties of Caroline, Westmoreland, Spotsylvania, King George, Culpeper, Stafford, and Fauquier; and
WHEREAS, the County of Lancaster and its people, over 350 years of rich history, have remained steadfastly loyal to Virginia and have contributed in innumerable ways to the development of the Commonwealth; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby join the County of Lancaster and its citizens in commemorating the 350th anniversary of the founding of Lancaster County; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the General Assembly recognize and celebrate the manifold contributions of the citizens of Lancaster County to the success and prosperity of the Commonwealth; and, be it
RESOLVED FINALLY, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Lancaster County Board of Supervisors as an expression of the General Assembly's recognition of this milestone in the history of Lancaster County.
