017748460WHEREAS, during the 2000 season, eight Varina Athletic Association baseball, softball, and football teams competed with great success in district or state tournament championships; and
WHEREAS, the Babe Ruth girls’ softball 14-and-under All Stars won the 2000 District 2 championship and were first runner-up in the Virginia state championship; and
WHEREAS, the Babe Ruth girls’ softball 12-and-under All Stars won the 2000 District 2 championship and were fifth runner-up in the Virginia state championship; and
WHEREAS, the Babe Ruth girls’ softball 10-and-under All Stars won the 2000 District 2 championship, were third runner-up in the Virginia state championship, and were first runner-up in the Southeast Region championship; and
WHEREAS, the Babe Ruth girls’ softball 16-and-under All Stars were first runner-up in the 2000 District 2 championship; and
WHEREAS, the Babe Ruth boys’ baseball 13-year-old All Stars were first runner-up in the 2000 District 3 championship; and
WHEREAS, the Babe Ruth boys’ baseball 14-year-old All Stars won the 2000 District 3 championship; and
WHEREAS, the Babe Ruth boys’ baseball 15-year-old All Stars won the 2000 District 3 championship and were Virginia state champions; and
WHEREAS, the Junior Division football team won the Richmond Metro League championship and were undefeated; and
WHEREAS, the success of the Varina Athletic Association teams is a tribute to the talents and teamwork of the athletes, the dedication of the coaches, and the enthusiastic support of the parents and the Varina community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend the Varina Athletic Association on the outstanding success of its youth athletic teams during the 2000 season; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to the Varina Athletic Association as an expression of the General Assembly’s admiration for its championship performance.
