Commending St. Pius X School.

WHEREAS, on March 25, 1956, Palm Sunday, ground was broken for the new St. Pius X Catholic School in Norfolk; and

WHEREAS, St. Pius X School opened its doors the following September, serving 189 children with a faculty consisting of three Trinitarian Sisters and one lay teacher; and

WHEREAS, now administered by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, St. Pius X School has for 45 years provided a comprehensive, integrated curriculum that strives for the formation of the whole person; and

WHEREAS, the success of St. Pius X School is evident in the success of its more than 1,000 graduates, many of whom have earned advanced degrees in colleges and universities throughout the nation and have become prominent professionals and leaders in various fields; and

WHEREAS, St. Pius X School has expanded over the years to meet the needs of its growing student body, adding classrooms in the early and mid 1990s to accommodate the nearly 450 students who currently are enrolled; and

WHEREAS, from its first graduating class in 1962 to the young people attending today, St. Pius X School has provided its students with a place where they can learn in an environment where religious beliefs and good citizenship complement the academic program; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly commend St. Pius X School on the occasion of its 45th anniversary; and, be it

RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Sister Marie Renee, IHM, principal of St. Pius X School, as an expression of the General Assembly's congratulations and best wishes for continued success.
