WHEREAS, Marian Donnelly Shadrick of Virginia Beach, a teacher for 26 years, was honored as the Bayside High School Teacher of the Year for 2002; and
WHEREAS, a graduate of The College of William and Mary, Marian Donnelly Shadrick is a former member of VISTA (Volunteers in Service To America), an anti-poverty program often called a domestic Peace Corps; and
WHEREAS, as a VISTA volunteer, Marian Donnelly Shadrick participated in many worthwhile projects, including a Georgia program to set up a mobile medical clinic to serve poor neighborhoods; and
WHEREAS, Marian Donnelly Shadrick has served as chairperson of the English department at Bayside High School in Virginia Beach since 1992, leading the effort to achieve full state accreditation for the City's high schools; and
WHEREAS, Marian Donnelly Shadrick has served as sponsor of Bayside High School's Key Club, which has worked on Virginia Beach community beautification projects; and
WHEREAS, Marian Donnelly Shadrick has for the past 25 years raised money for student scholarships, is active in the Special Olympics, and led the City's high schools in the Red Cross blood drive; and
WHEREAS, cited in Who's Who Among America's Teachers in 2001, Marian Donnelly Shadrick is a worthy recipient of Bayside High School's Teacher of the Year honor; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED by the Senate, the House of Delegates concurring, That the General Assembly hereby commend Marian Donnelly Shadrick on her outstanding career in education; and, be it
RESOLVED FURTHER, That the Clerk of the Senate prepare a copy of this resolution for presentation to Marian Donnelly Shadrick as an expression of the General Assembly's appreciation for her dedication to the education of the young people of Virginia Beach.
